About Coretta C. Patterson

Dr. Coretta Patterson is a board-certified veterinary specialist, educator, and passionate advocate for the next generation of veterinary professionals. Growing up on Chicago’s Southeast Side, her love of animals began early through summers spent caring for animals on her family’s hobby farm and volunteering with local animal welfare organizations. Those experiences, combined with a strong commitment to education, inspired her lifelong career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Patterson earned both her undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the University of Illinois and has built an impressive career spanning clinical practice, academia, and professional leadership. Throughout her career, she has remained deeply committed to mentorship, expanding access to veterinary education, and creating opportunities for students who may not otherwise see themselves represented in the profession. Her dedication to supporting veterinarians, fostering future leaders, and advancing excellence in animal care makes her a valued advisor to the VESPECON community.
